Please include: your iPhone model and iOS version, what you were doing, and — if the problem involves a run — which screen you were on when it happened. We usually reply within a few days.
.kml or .gpx file.Yes. Free Roam works anywhere, with no track at all, and it is free forever with no limit — it is never counted and never gated. You get live timing, speed, distance and a G reading.
There are three ways, all on the Tracks page:
.kml or .gpx file (including from iCloud Drive).latitude, longitude lines.Importing always adds a track; it never overwrites or replaces anything you already have.
No route handy yet? Download a sample closed loop and import it, to see how the corner list and the
voice notes behave before you drive your own road:
sample-route.kml ·
sample-route.txt (plain latitude, longitude text you can paste).
Free forever: Free Roam timing, drawing tracks, KML / GPX import, corner analysis and route preview, playing a callout and rehearsing a route, and the G meter / altitude / sound-level instruments.
Free with a limit: 5 timed runs on a saved track, 3 acceleration or braking tests, and review of your most recent run.
Pro (one-time purchase, no subscription): unlimited timed runs with voice pace notes, unlimited tests, full run history, data export, share cards, per-corner G recording and wet / dry comparison.
A free run is only counted once it has actually finished and at least three pace notes were announced during it. Opening a run and closing it again costs you nothing.
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchase — the button is always there. The same button also appears on the Clutch Pro screen. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. If Family Sharing is on, a family member's purchase can unlock it too.
Location is the measuring instrument: it is how the app records a route, knows where you are on a saved route, and times a real gate crossing. Nothing is transmitted — your location never leaves your phone. "While Using" is enough for every feature. The optional "Always" upgrade only lets timing and voice notes keep running when the screen is locked during a drive.
Yes. Clutch has no server and works with no mobile signal at all — routes, notes, timing and review are all local. Maps need a network connection the first time you view an area (map tiles come from Apple Maps), but recording and timing do not.
No — and that is deliberate. Clutch describes the road: corner direction, severity and distance ahead. It does not suggest, display or announce a recommended, target or "safe" speed, and it does not encourage speeding. Any speed number you see in the app comes from your own recorded run and is shown only after the run, for analysis. Please drive responsibly and obey traffic laws.
On your device only. There is no account, no cloud and no analytics. Deleting the app removes everything. With Pro you can export your run data as a file you own; runs can also be turned into a share card image.
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through Apple as well. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in and select the purchase. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
No. Clutch is an iPhone app (iOS 17 or later) and does not support CarPlay.
The app gets the price from the App Store. If the store cannot be reached — no network, or an App Store outage — the screen says so and offers a Try again button instead of showing a broken purchase button. Check your connection and tap it again.
That happens if location permission is set to "While Using" only. To keep timing and voice notes running with the
screen locked, allow "Always" in
iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Clutch.
Check, in order: that you selected a track (Free Roam has no corners to call), that the phone's volume is up and it is not in silent mode, and that the run has actually started on the start gate. You can test the voice indoors with Tools → play one callout or rehearse the whole route, and run Tools → self-check to confirm the audio pack is intact.
